What has Path to offer vs Facebook?

There’s a new player in town and it’s called Path. According to Path it is a smart journal that helps you share life and never miss an important moment with family. Path started off as a photo sharing tool for the iPhone. Last month they came out with Path 2, a social network to share moments with your family and best friends.

Sounds familiar as Facebook has all of these options as well. So what makes Path favorable above Facebook? Personally I think it’s the limit of 50 ‘friends’ you can have on the network. You can only see each other ‘paths’. Facebook is way open for everyone and the amount of status updates can be overwhelming. With the lack of transparency in the privacy settings in Facebook, Path could benefit from this.

Whose involved?

Path has a pretty impressive list of names backing it. These include Ashton Kutcher, Ron Conway, Kevin Rose, Keith Rabois, Dustin Moskovitz, Marc Benioff, Gary VaynerchukJoi Ito, Fadi Ghandour, Matt Cohler, Sam Lessin, Bill Randuchel, Karl Jacob, Paul Buchheit, Ruchi Sanghvi, John Couch, Michael Parekh, Claudio Chiuchiarelli, Maurice Werdegar, Don Dodge, and Chris Kelly.
You probably recognize at least some of those. Oh, and its co-founders are Dave Morin (Senior Platform Manager at Facebook), Shawn Fanning (Founder of Napster) and Dustin Mierau.

At one point Facebook will go the same route as Myspace did. People are already fed up with Facebook when it comes to privacy. Facebook addressed this a while ago but it has a bitter taste in the mouth. It’s just a matter of time before the masses will move over to a new, closer, social network. I’m for sure ready for it.

The campaign

Downside of Path for me is their videos. Their latest video is one of a father wanting to be reunited with his family. It’s almost a presidential campaign spot for the republicans. Pretty cheesy I might say. Check it out:

Give it a try if you like. I know most of you think another social site I need to update. True, but I’m sure you gonna like Path. The design and interface are just stunning. Easy to use and intuitive. Path is available at the App Store and Android Market.
